We believe protecting children and vulnerable adults is everyone’s responsibility

Gateway’s Safeguarding Program is designed to fulfill its ethical and legal responsibility for the safety and well-being of children in its care, as well as help Gateway to guard the integrity of its workers. Children and vulnerable adults have intrinsic value, therefore, Gateway workers are obligated to identify, support, and protect the vulnerable.

The definition of safeguarding we are using is: “A term to denote measures to protect the health, well-being and human rights of individuals, which allow people — especially children and vulnerable adults — to live free from abuse. It is about people and organizations working together to prevent and reduce the risks, occurrences, and impact of harm.”

The objectives of Gateway’s safeguarding program are to reduce the risk of harm to children that fall under its care and to ensure TeachBeyond workers model healthy adult-child interactions.

With this in mind, the Gateway Safeguarding Program rests upon four foundational principles: regard, responsibility, response, and requirement.
